Wednesday, ran route 8 and then into work for 5.37 miles in 48 minutes. Started off feeling a bit shaky, but seemed to get into the ‘groove’ after about a mile
Friday, short one today. Couple of laps around the rec and then up and over mansfield road for 4 miles in 34:44 minutes. Suprised it went that well as I’d been out for curry and beer with some old friend the night before (Cumin is highly recommended by the way).
Saturday, long run along the river, 8.39 miles in 74 minutes. Not quite the route I’d planned as it turns out part of the route at attenbrough is closed for the next 8 weeks.
Overall a pretty good week, nothing’s really hurting at the moment and I seem to be able to keep a reasonably steady pace up throughout the long run.
Weekly total – 17:46 miles, 2:37 hours

19/07 – Couple of laps around the rec and over mansfield road for 4 miles
21/07 – Same as monday
22/07 – Moved the long run to thursday as off to the lake district for the weekend. Did Route 11 with a modification to make it to 7.5 miles, took 1:04 which I’m pretty pleased with.
23/07 – Long walk up helvellyn via striding edge and then down over White Side and Raise and down to glenridding. All in all 10 miles. Not very fast, but can certainly feel the effects in muscles. Got to have done something good. And near 5 hours on the feet has to do something useful for fitness
24/07 – Unplanned run around Grizedale woods. All off road in the rain (trainers are still drying out 48 hours later). Didn’t take ay form of GPS and the map disintergrated, But reckon we probably did about 4 miles, a fair amount of which was on varying gradients.
25/07 – walking again. This time a long uphill slog up alongside stickle tarn, a quick stroll up the scree to pavey ark and then a good scramble up Jack’s Rake. Then plenty of wandering downhill.
So not much running, but certainly lots of time on my feet over the weekend. Don’t feel as though anything is aching too much, so now to see if it makes a difference when I start running again this week.

Overall not a bad week,
12/07/2010 – Round the forest rec a couple of times and then up mansfield road and down to work. 3.5 miles.
14/07/2010 -Did Route 2 and then up and over Mansfield Road to work to give a total of 4 miles
16/07/2010 -Pretty much the same as monday.
17/07/2010 – The weekend and a chance for a longer run. Went out along the River Trent and the canal (Route 11). 6.5 miles in 56 minutes, so pretty happy about that. Legs weren’t so happy about then having a 2 hour drive down to Hughenden manor. Also got a very painful left wrist (felt like being pumped after climbing), think I’d either got my forerunner strap too tight or the extra weight on that arm’s not helping.
Running to work seems to be working atm. Have managed to lighten my bag by making sure on a non running day I carry in t-shirts and stuff for running days.
Next week should be interesting as we’re off the Lake District for the weekend. Don’t think I’m quite ready for fell running yet, so might swap the longer run for a couple of very hilly walks.
Weekly total – 17.5 miles

Well, back into it properly now. First week with proper runs all the way through it since many months ago.
To make fitting everything in easier, and to avoid the heat I’ve started running to work 3 days a week. From our flat to the centre of Nottingham is only about 1.2 miles, so I’m having to make the runs a bit longer at the moment. So far this just means running a couple of laps of the forest rec before heading up and over mansfield road to drop into the centre. Plus it means running in with a bag on my back which is interesting. But it’s getting me about 3.5 miles in each time
But then saturday came around and I had a quick 5 mile trot around beeston canal and the River Trent (Route 4). Felt good and consistent all the way round, with a bit of energy left in the legs to speed up over the last mile.
This week’s gone pretty well. Even at 7 in the morning the heat is getting to me.
Week total = ~15.5 miles.

Well, not been out at all this week. The amount of pain in my right leg just wasn’t going down, or away. After a week’s rest it seems to actually be coming from behind the knee. Which is on of the bits that didn’t hurt while actually running. Doing a bit of light stretching each day. And hoping that another week will sort it.

Not a brilliant start to the week. Lots of pain from Sunday’s run. So didn’t get out until:
02/02/2010 – 3ish miles – 30:52 – Another cloudy night another fail by the iPhone to get a GPS lock. Made something up on the spot as I was worried about my right leg and didn’t want to be to far away from home in case I needed to hobble back. In the end it was quite a nice run, if a little wet. Bit of pain the morning after, but think that’s just my right calf.
03/02/2010 – 3.5 miles – 32:22 – Flurries of snow to run in tonight, bit nippy but still went out in shorts. as soon as I’d warmed up it was all fine. Felt pretty good all the way round. Right leg/calf still seems to be a bit sorer than left, no idea why, doesn’t feel like I’m favouring one leg over the other
05/02/2010 – 3.08 miles – 27:38 – Still not happy with my right leg, though it hurts more when I’ve not moved for a while, so I’m guessing it’s probably a lack of flexibility so plenty of stretching. With that in mind took it easy and went for a shorter run, mainly running around the Forest Rec on the grass to minimise impact in case that helped.
Didn’t run for the rest of the weekend. Still painful right leg so thought an extended rest may be for the best. Did dance rather energetically to Anaal Nathrakh on Saturday, so that probably counts as exercise……..

25/01/2010 – 3.49 miles – 32:07 – Mostly Route 2 - very cold tonight, but still went out in shorts. Felt good once I’d got moving, didn’t feel like I was overheating. Felt a good pace all the way round and still had a bit of ‘go’ left at the end as well. Still a few aches coming in now and then but they soon go away.
27/01/2010 – 3.49 miles – 31:47 – Mostly Route 2 – Keeping it nice and sane and just did the same route from monday. Felt harder in places, not sure if that’s due to a couple of late nights and being tired. Discovered new gloves are too slippy to be holding an iPhone with, so I’ll have to dig the armband out again. And Runkeeper was flummoxed by clouds, which isn’t too handy.
30/01/2010 – 8 miles – not a run as such, but a decent walk over Kinder Scout. Certainly stretched the legs a bit. Very icy (ended up arse over tit twice).
31/01/2010 – 4.59 miles – 39:28 – Quick run around Sherwood and Forest Fields. Legs felt stiff in places, but the run seemed to go OK and I finished the route I wanted to do. Calfs still quite stiff and sore, hopefully they’ll settle down soon. Good end to the week.
Week total = 11.57 miles, 1:14:22

So finally back out and running. Going to take it easy after 4 weeks off, so hopefully a nice slow week this and then starting to get longer again next week.
19/01/2010 – 3.2 miles – 32:55 – Route 2 – nice break back in. Felt like I took it nice and steadily. Lungs didn’t mind moving again after the first 5 minutes. Lots of little twinges in different places but they all seemed to settle down, worst was a bit or right hip ache at about 2 miles, but that soon went. Really felt like there was nothing left in the legs at the end, and getting back up the stairs at the end was ‘interesting’
21/01/2009 – 3 miles – 29:48 – Route 2 – not so pleasant. lots of muscle ache from tuesday. Didn’t manage to do the full route as legs felt completely empty, so settled for a fast walk back. Hopefully this is going to start to improve soon.
23/01/2009 – 4 miles – 34:24 - A quick run round the canal and River Trent starting and finishing at Castle Marina Sainsburys. – Felt good to be out. Lovely bright crisp morning. Felt good till about 3.5 miles but then still had enough to get to 4. Lots of people out, some waved back some didn’t. Shame I then had to go into Sainsburys to do the shopping (which took longer than the run).
Week total – 10.2 miles – 1:38:08

So not a very good christmas for running. Due to the seasonable weather, a family bereavement and a bad back I’ve not actually been out running for 3 weeks. Here’s hoping that week 15 bring back some chance to pound pavements. Definitely feels/looks like I’ve piled on some pound over christmas.

Another lowish week thanks to the festive season. Though I did get to run in some awful conditions
15/12/2009 – 3.69 miles – 33:54 – mostly Route 10 – very cold evening so went out all wrapped up. Seem to have solved a ‘nipple problem’ with some judicious use of vaseline. Route went well, certainly felt Woodbrough Drive but impressed that I made it all the way up.
16/12/2009 – ~5.5 miles – 47:23 – a variation of Route 9 to let me get a long run in from work during lunch. Unfortunately the iPhone/Runkeeper went mad a reckons I did 8.37 miles in 47:23 minutes. I wish. Awful weather. Due to the lack of proper pacing I think I went too fast, certainly felt very hard on the return part, ending up walking back up part of Castle Rd.
20/12/2009 – 3.99 miles – 37:46 – Running in Luton for a change while visiting my parents. Very cold out, and very snowy/icy. Cut the distance slightly short as I was worried about twisting something.
Week Total – 13.18 miles – 119:03 minutes
