well that’s a relief. It appears that Mathcad will run fine under Parallels on a Mac. Installed with no problems and I’ve run through the first chapters workbooks with no problems. Would have been nice if the Open University could have made a slightly firmer yes/no answer. So that’s another worry out of the way. Handy really, as technically the course started on Friday.
Hi there.
I’m new to the wonderful world of Mac and I’m due to start MST121 soon. Could you explain to me how to install mathcad on my Mac please. As I can’t seem to get it to work. Thanks in advance
Hi,
Mathcad won’t run directly on a Mac. You need to have one of the virtual windows products running on it first. When I first wrote this post I was using a product called Parallels, but now I’m using VMware Fusion. Both of these are commercial products and fairly easy to install.
There is a free virtual windows product for the Mac – Virtual Box, but I’ve not tried it on a Mac or with Mathcad (I’ve used it at work for other applications and it runs those fine).
All of the above let you install a ‘virtual’ windows machine that runs in the background on your Mac onto which you can then install MathCad.
Hope that was helpful?
