Well, not quite. After a couple of months off the running with some knee ache I’ve started back up the last 2 weeks. It appears that it wasn’t the running that was making my knees hurt, it was my work shoes. They’d turned into a really comfy slipper fit, but I hadn’t noticed that the soles were so worn I was always walking one the edges of my feet with the heels down. One new pair of boots and everything disappeared, and I could start pounding pavements again.
Taking it nice and slow to make sure it was the old shoes. So every other day I’m going out for 2.5 slowish loops of the forest rec, which is about 3 miles in about 30 minutes by the time I’ve run there from the flat. Hopefully after another week of that I can start on a few more longer runs again, just in time for the summer sun :). It’s all a bit dull just plodding round the forest rec, but hopefully I’ll be back to the Canal and the Trent soon enough.
So the moral of the story is to not just worry about your running shoes, but to keep a very close eye on any other footwear you spend a lot of time wearing.
